Regular Visits

Woman receiving a gentle neck adjustment

A Typical Office Visit

A typical office visit at our Bryn Mawr chiropractic practice usually takes 8-10 minutes.  Longer visits are available if extra care is needed or desired.

The main focus is the chiropractic adjustment, which is specifically designed to systematically release tension caused by subluxations.  A subluxation is the clinical name for increased lifestyle stress that interferes with spinal balance and brain and nerve control.  The chiropractic adjustment does not suppress your body’s symptoms like a drug, but goes deeper and wakes up your inherent ability to heal.  As this process unfolds, your pain and other symptoms will naturally start to subside as your body gets stronger.

In addition, we will often utilize cold laser therapy, which adds additional energy to injured tissue and has the effect of accelerating the healing process.

I use several ways to “read” and analyze your body as I work.  One of them is applied kinesiology, which uses muscle testing to ask the body questions. My recommendations regarding specific nutritional supplementation to augment the “in-office” work utilize applied kinesiology to “ask your body” if you need a supplement, and if so, what dosage at a point in time.  Everyone has specific needs that change, especially when there is an injury, so this tool allows me to customize my recommendations based on what you need at a certain point in time.

Adjusting Techniques

I have been in practice since 1984. Although I was trained in manual adjusting, I have shifted to more gentle instrument adjusting in the last 15 years.  I find that most people prefer this approach.

There is no twisting, turning, “cracking” or “popping” of joints.  Since people are less uptight when getting adjusted, the adjustments tend to be more effective and longer lasting.  This is what my practice members have reported to me.  In addition, many adjustments are done with you standing or sitting.

The two main types of adjusting techniques I currently use are:  Koren Specific Technique (KST) and Torque Release Technique.
