The Purpose of the Chiropractic Adjustment

Lower back being gently adjusted

At Bryn Mawr Chiropractic, our approach to chiropractic care focuses on releasing old stressful habits within the spine and nerves. A specific procedure, known as a chiropractic adjustment, will be used in each session. It is a gentle and precise movement to the spine or other areas of the body that is designed to unlock tension and awaken deadened nerve connections. It’s painless and incredibly effective.

We use two different precision instruments to make the adjustments. Each adjustment builds on the one from before and so a proper care plan will re-train the spine and nerve connections to work more efficiently. This process wakes up & strengthens your body’s natural healing energy, while at the same time rebuilding your resilience and reserves, so you can better handle stress.

Gentle Adjustments

Our focus, based on over 35 years of experience, is on gentle chiropractic adjustments. There is no neck or body twisting, or “cracking” of joints.  We don’t move a spinal bones, but release the stress on the nerve system within the spinal bones.  You will receive gentle, specific corrections to your spine and structural system (we can also gently adjust every joint in the body as needed, head to foot).

The two techniques I use to adjust in this way are Koren Specific Technique (KST) and Torque Release.

Many adjustments are done in the sitting or standing position, since many patterns of stress do not show up while lying relaxed on your stomach.  For example, if you injure yourself in a certain position, it often makes sense to check and adjust you in that position.  New advancements now allow us to do this.

By testing or challenging specific muscles, we can determine the exact location of lost structural integrity and many non-spinal health problems.

With a gentle touch and a light thrusting by hand or an instrument called an Integrator, the brain/body connection is enhanced.
